“Things progressed a lot quicker than I expected.”

Josh couldn't get sound from his headphones to cue up a track when he first got in touch. Three sessions later he has appeared on radio shows and is making his first track in Ableton.

THE INTERVIEW

Tell us about your production journey so far. How long have you been producing, and what drew you to it in the first place?

My DJing and production was non-existent. I bought turntables when I was 17 but never got round to learning a thing on them. It was basically a glorified record player. When I messaged Matt I couldn't even get sound from my headphones to cue up a track, so the struggles were real.

What did you want to change when you first applied?

I joined the Artist Development programme to work with Matt in person. I came in with a mindset of just being able to learn how to mix over the course of the programme, but things progressed a lot quicker than I expected.

How tailored were the sessions to you and your music?

The music I love is hard techno and most of the subgenres that come from it. Matt does his research into genres and made things specific to what I wanted to achieve, which helped so much.

“

Don't think twice about it.

What stood out most to you during the sessions?

The way things are not only explained but demonstrated and broken down is massive. It makes things so much easier to learn from than having to look through endless YouTube videos.

How would you rate the programme, and would you recommend it?

Don't think twice about it. If I can be taught what I have been over the space of less than a month, then the possibilities for anyone willing to do the same and sign up are sky high.

Looking back, what are your thoughts on Future Sound Academy overall?

Working alongside Matt is effortless. I've now done just 3 sessions with him. I've had numerous appearances on radio shows, including Toxic Sickness, a show I listened to as a kid, which was pretty cool. I'm also in the middle of making my first track after just 1.5 sessions on Ableton, which I never dreamed possible when I signed up.
